Modern features cars don't really need...

Auto lights I’ve learned to tolerate as long as you check after an mot or service.

auto wipers I’d grown used to in the e39 as always on but on the f11 you have to activate each time.

Early systems frustrated as they stopped when stationary so m25 deluge was a pain when stop start.

seems  the consensus is things that take away control/ stop you thinking are not as helpful as manufacturers think.

Not sure what you are defining as 'early' systems, but on both my E34 & current E39 the wipers default to intermittent wipe, not stop.

These daft ideas are the result of some geek, who has nothing better to do, dreaming it up & then marketing convinces the buying public that it's a 'must-have' consequently the car gets heavier & more costly to buy; then dealers screw the owner over with parts & labour costs. Cars today are only designed to function throughout the warranty period, after that ... 😏

I wonder what a car would cost today  if it only carried you from A to B and made you do everything yourself.  Like my 1955 Austin.  That’s a real wake up call after being cosseted and spoiled rotten in a modern transportation system.
