Car Histories?

Anyone interested in sharing car histories? I'm sure all of our journeys have been different and unique. Mine is simple not being a wealthy man....

Mine started with a metallic red Volvo 360GLE in 1989 (2L, carb). I managed to destroy it in March 1990, when I inadvertently discovered that when a bollard cuts into a  Volvo between the A pillar and front wheel, destruction is guaranteed....

My second car was a black Volvo 360GLT, a fuel injected version of the GLE with a racing stripe and a rear spoiler ( yes, I kid you not, a factory fitted spoiler on a family saloon....)

Next up was a 1990 light green metallic Citroën XM, (2L, fuel injected) a really beautiful car, visually and very different to the Volvo. I kept this for 2-3 years and moved on as some major work the car required to the engine was more than the car was worth.

This was followed by a Rover 820 fastback (2L, fuel injected) with the 8 valve engine, with the tappet issues that I only got partially funded by Rover. I hated this car...It was my first automatic, but it was a horrible drive and I couldn't bear the wind noise from the wing mirrors. It was nothing like the XM. So after less than 6 months I part exchanged it...

The Rover was part exchanged for a low mileage dark green Citroën XM exclusive (2L fuel injected). This was an 1994 model, so 2nd generation with improved suspension and an automatic gear box.....I had this car for 9 years...absolutely loved it. XMs are marmite cars, you either love or loathe them and most were highly unreliable, I was lucky, I never had a breakdown in either of the ones I owned, but they were maintained by a specialist garage.

With the arrival of my Son in 2006, I needed to change for a car with more seats, so bought a Mitsubishi Grandis Equippe (2.4L, fuel injected). This was a great car, 5 seater, with an extra 2 seats to give give 7 seats, that unfolded from the boot... comfortable and spacious, loads of torque, not the best acceleration, but could 120 mph. With the seats down you could load about 500 kg in the back. Also great for shopping and intercontinental travel. I had this car for 13 years and only got rid of it due to concerns that it's Euro IV engine  would be at a disadvantage in London, if Euro V would become the preferred minimum standard.

So in 2020, I bought my first BMW, amongst the last made of the F07N, 535i, the best car I've ever owned. It just pipped an Audi A7 with a 2.8L engine.....the Audi was a better drive, but the BMW interior was superior and had the panoramic roof.  We call it the Land Yacht as it is large, luxurious and spacious inside...it isn't an M model ( they didn't make one in the F07 series), but it has the sport suspension and I've added some bits that were missing from the original specs....I'm happy with 300 HP!

With exception of the first car, all of my cars have been hatchbacks (360GLE had a boot) and petrol engines...not the most exotic list of cars, but I enjoyed them all except the Rover.
