What did you do to your F10, F11 or F07 today?

Booked mine in for its test a week on Monday. The car recently passed the psychologically significant 150000 mile mark so I'll be happy to see it pass with flying colours.

A friend at work has a 520d from 2014, with 220,000 miles, always serviced at the recommended intervals by BMW, N47 engine without any start-up rattles, always used the start/stop function.  Still drives good as gold.

Non BMW mechanic said to stop spending any money on it now though.  Plans to run it until it dies.

Oooft, that's 92,000 more than mine has got on it.

You use it daily and for good long drives so it'll be in good health. Plus you look after it.

Tell him to ignore that mechanic and keep it running with regular oil and filter services.  If it's done 220,000 miles it's obviously a good'un.

Mine just clocked up 200k on a run up to Dundee over New Year. Had it MOTd at the beginning of the month...flew through with only front brake pads showing an advisory.

Even the guy that did the MOT said it doesn't feel like it's done anywhere near 200k miles...still feels tight with no rattles.

Some idiot knocked the o/s wingmirror off the other day...found the cover at the side of the road... put it all back together and works a treat. Just the clear indicator lens broken so ordered a couple of 'chasing' indicators off ebay for 30 quid. Should arrive in the week so will fit both then.

Installed a brand new LCI steering wheel in my 2011 535i, sourced from a company on ebay in Lithuania. Completely plug & play as it's a manual. I put a new gearknob on when I bought the car so my major touch points are lovely and free of previous owners' grubbiness.

The new wheel is about 800g lighter, 450g of which is the wheel and 350g is the airbag.

Not a cheap upgrade at £550 but worth it for me when it's what you hold the most.

You mean sourced from a company that someone sold it too after stripping it out from a UK car.

Paid my pothole tax today on mine. 😩

There is that risk but on close inspection it does seem to be new, as advertised. UK folk are terrible at looking after their interiors so I'd almost certainly expect to find some wear and dirt.

You've got that right.

When looking for a car for my Mrs, the interiors of sub 12 month old cars looked like folk had being partying in them and the selling dealers weren't interested in fixing/cleaning bits of trim.

It's one of the things l look for when buying second hand because it tells you about the previous owners. Replacing trim is a pain in the backside when it comes to sourcing decent condition parts, actually fitting it and can be expensive.

I've got an interior in my garage as I want comfort seats and of the lot I'll only keep the front seats. The rest I'll dye my existing black interior and I found some good condition oyster door cards. Even those had some broken clips.

Took it for its MOT this morning. Passed OK but with an advisory for the front discs being worn. Considering they've been on the car for 83000 miles that's pretty good going. I knew they were getting on a bit and have a new set of genuine BMW discs and pads ready to fit at some point.

The  car has done 24000 miles since it's MOT last January and 38000 miles since needing any kind of repair. 1 year and 7 months and counting with only the usual regular maintenance jobs. With just over 151000 on the clock now the car is doing real well.

Would you mind sharing the link to the company? Did they have other styles?

Oil service, MOT and EGR recall sorted today at the main dealer.

Had some advisories though, one of which was -

Prop shaft flexible coupling slightly deteriorated - Rear (rear rubber coupling)

No bloody idea what that is tbh…. I presume I won’t be able to get that replaced under warranty!

Other than that, she still pulls like a train with a rocket up it’s backside… Thinking about replacing the 18’s with 19’s though…. Been trawling eBay…

What was the final diagnosis for all that last year?

Sorry, only just seen this!…

Mmm… The final diagnosis seemed to be “replace everything until the bad error message goes away”… I’ll try and attach the final bill/list of replacement parts below.. No idea if these will attach in order, but you get the idea…

The rubber coupling connects the propshaft to the differential.

Finally got this today, the quality is exquisite. Shipped from the US to Germany and then to me. No extra import charges...

New O2 sensors to go with it and then I can unlock the final level of MHD tuning for just under 400hp and about 450lb/ft on my PWG 535i. That'll do.

Installation probably won't happen for a month or so though. Planning to do the three differential bushes at the same time. Don't suppose anyone has the cup press tool they can sell or rent to me?

  • 2 weeks later...

Just used the last of my current BMW screenwash and opened a new container. They looked exactly the same but on closer inspection,  I noticed the minimum temperature at each dilution rate has reduced with the newer product eg. No dilution was = -63°C, but now it's a higher temp at -55°C, etc.

So my first thought is that there is less ethanol in the solution than there used to be. My second thought was it's a stealthy price increase.

I know,  I need to get out more!16748351008626462129289128710344.thumb.jpg.1cef6fc0efb227a0e15b9f9e9ce88062.jpg1674835132456701688046918908932.thumb.jpg.7613e8ea21351ed199e36068afc5820e.jpg
