What did you do to your F10, F11 or F07 today?

Recommended Posts

Do you know once upon a time I would have had a go, but I know the process and frankly can’t be bothered with the faff! I’ll get it done alongside a service in the new year by a garage, there’s a ZF specialist not too far away so will probably get them to do it.

Can someone recommend a decent seal protector for doors.

was proper locked out of the car this morning as all doors frozen.

i hear aerospace 303 is good? And importantly instock

Krytox is the absolute best thing. Not cheap but a little goes a very long way. Also will get rid of interior creaks when put on any contact points.

This is oem as VW and BMW’s seal conditioner

Used a litre of screenwash today doing 50 miles in the manky weather in the dark.

So at a ratio of BMW screenwash to water of 1:4, and there are 5 litres of concentrate in a container for lets say £20.

That's what 2 pence a mile to keep my screen and headlights clean?

Still at 1:4 ratio it didn't freeze at -4.5 deg C this morning on the Southern Orbital Road heading up the hills to East Kilbride.

It's too late at night for these sums....

My head hurts.....

I didn't DIY it but my local mechanic changed my glow plug module for me. He did it without removing the manifold which is tricky and tight but I think with the right tools is more easily doable. There's a video on YouTube of a guy doing it with a bent spanner and let's just say I don't have the time nor patience for it.

I've been putting off this job out of laziness for almost 6 months but with the cold weather really settling in, the rough idle on cold mornings was extremely violent!

Next job glow plugs, which again I'll have him do at some point! I don't want to risk snapping one and wouldn't know where to begin with one stuck in the head. I don't think mine have ever been changed (@ 124k now) according to the service book (will have to double check), hence will be corroded and need a bit of work to ease them out.

Replaced the battery on Saturday afternoon.

It was the original one to the car and I've been having weird electrical issues for a while (Windscreen washer pump not working, bluetooth not connecting, crackling speakers). Checking the battery health revealed the max it had been charged recently was 51%.

Replaced it with a Bosch unit from eBay for £185 and registered the battery change with the car.

Everything seems much happier now although I've only used the car a few times since doing this.

I've just paid £322, for brake fluid change plus oil and oil filter change and A/C duct disinfectant.  If I had opted for the pollen filter replacement, the bill would have gone up to about £450.... The 'BMW' branded pollen filters are nearly £100!  Autodoc are selling Mann activated carbon+ fungicide filters for about half that cost, so I'll DIY that inthe Spring😁

Not today, but yesterday i fixed my SLS - wasnt convinced it was airbags - pretty sure it was compressor, stripped it down and it ran ok, valve of and desiccant was dry.

Transpired the relay had failed in the boot well - e39 donated its to test and all is well, new one on order.

I think it was the strong word i had with it...

Yes the bmw pollen filters are proper spendy. They were similar on the E60 too.

I paid £85 for a pair back in 2020.

I put febi ones in, in 2022 for under £25 I think.

Assume this is accessed under the glove box? YouTube suggests but it was a LHD video. When I changed steering column I don’t recall seeing anything drivers side.
