What did you do to your F10, F11 or F07 today?

Still feels great to drive and hardly showing it's age.

Nice, mine will be 10 years in a few months but it doesn't feel like a 10 year old car.

O.k. so the snarky ones on here will tell you that's because I've replaced everything on it......😛

Did this yesterday but I guess it still counts!

Put some UV dye in the coolant system to find out where it was leaking from! Luckily (?) the leak is from the plastic pipe that attaches to the cylinder head so an easyish fix. I've posted in the F11 tech section so please feel free to help with a procedure for replacing the coolant 😁

Fortunately I haven’t had to do anything to it today.

A couple of months ago it was serviced, oils, filters, etc…

And a month ago it got 2 new Michelin PS5 on the back axle. So far so good, they seem pretty sticky. Let’s see how they are with the pass of time and mileage.

Is it really that good and worth doing?  Is it washable?

Well, just my opinion. It is designed to be reused, K&N sell a kit for cleaning and re-oiling. A standard filter is between £15-£30 depending on where you purchase and good to change annually, so a K&N which is designed for a 10 year life, should work out more cost effective after 3 years, depending on cleaning requirements. I'm sure other members have experience if K&N that they can share

Shows how little you know @duncan-uk as @VPCAPTAIN can confirm that there was indeed play in the ball joint of the nearside tension arm. 😛

65 plate F11 520d

last week MOT at Stealer had indicated OSF protection plate loose and rattling so bought new protection plate, 4 fixing bolts and 2 new caliper cradle bolts and set about what seemingly is an easy swap.

After jacking OSF removing wheel and making safe with axle stands / tyre under just in case set about job

with OSF wheel removed

brakes and discs had been replaced prior to purchase in Feb 22 from Peter Vardy Carz ( they are non bmw but seem ok ( estimate pagid )

however on close inspection some ‘mechanic’ - i use the word lightly had butchered the 6mm hex bolt securing the disc to the bearing

so much so the head had come off and when i removed the two caliper cradle bolts ( e18 torx ) the disc fell off

after supporting the caliper cradle i set about replacing the protection plate

plate is fixed by 4 10mm bolts and the bottom bolt had pulled a hole in the plate and was rattling

the bolts came out easily and could have been re-used but i used the new ones and torqued to 12nm as per tis

then was the hard part drilling out the damaged 6mm hex bolt a 6.8mm drill and m8x1.25 tap was used

I replaced the "bonnet support seals" basically the gutter under the bonnet that runs along the wing is attached to these big plastic panels. Mine had degraded and were breaking off and looked scruffy.

Didn't take any pictures but just a case of removing the rubber gasket and a load of plastic rivets.

Biggest gripe is new parts don't have the warning stickers but was able to unpeel and transfer.

Also the Vin viewing slot is much bigger on the new ones. Again should have taken some pictures but the old ones are in a skip now!

What i would say is working on the F11 it feels cheaper than the e39 and cheaper still than e28/34s progress i suppose.

Do you think it has been used as a tool shelf during servicing to damage it?

I recall a user on the old forum discovering a pair of water pump pliers lying there after a visit to the dealer for EGR work. 🙄

I would say build quality.

I’m replacing parts on the F10 at lower miles than on my E60, which I never had to replace on my 91k mikes E39.

But since I owned my E39, up here in Scotland we have a government who refuses to invest in road maintenance IMHO.

No as same both sides, i think the rubber has degraded from enviromental damage and was breaking off in sections.

Whats irritating is the plastic was fine but the rubber is bonded to it so you have to replace the lot.

Build quality - stuff just feels cheaper and lighter. i think the phrase is "fur coat and no knickers" as once you look behind stuff it doesn't feel engineered to last.
