Fitted the newly refurbished wheels 😀

Literally  just fitted them, car needs a good day of claying, polishing and a wax then tyres dressed but had to see them on. I’ll paint the brake calipers as well but will probably stick with the subtle but neat looking dark grey for those.

I had them refurbished three years ago and went for factory silver but I’m getting a bit more adventurous I’m my advancing years so this time went for a darker ‘gunmetal’.

Used a company called Dust Powder and Paint in Glasgow £280 (+£60 for a weld) for the four, fully stripped and powder coated.

Like the ‘mean look and can’t wait to get the whole car cleaned and refreshed for spring.

I forgot to ask them to mask the hub interface so had to do that but very happy with the whole deal.

Pulled the trigger on ordering a new offside front headlight. Adaptive Xenons just to make it eye wateringly expensive.

It's really full of water and yes, I've watched all the repair videos but, I've got a great deal on genuine one from my local friendly BMW dealer, cheaper than Hella ones from ECP, Autodoc and Ebay.  I'll pull the old one out and strip out my lights and modules as you don't get them with the new one.

Earlier in this week, I got the side light failure (angel eyes) and yesterday I got the whole shooting match of failure warnings, indicator, side lights, main beam and adaptive light all having failed.  Sure enough on jumping out, that front headlight was as bright as a dud bulb, but of course like all BMW electrical problems then rectified itself after switching off and back on again.

Hopefully I'll be able to salvage the module.

Meanwhile I'll need to slum it in my dad's X3, now where's that brown paper bag to put over my head while driving it.....

Nice! I did the same a while back with mine...went from 17s to 18s in a dark gunmetal.

Looks great against the space grey!

Are those headlights right hand and left hand drive specific? This one states it is?

These are massive savings against dealer prices if suitable.

Answered in your other similar post, UK requires LH Traffic specific headlights.

Removed the offside head light TMS module this afternoon

A1-D7-EA82-C101-46-B2-B293-2-D9-FB2-EBA5

Which was accompanied by a dribble of water. My local electronics expert @VPCAPTAIN reckons it’s good to for reuse as there is no obvious signs of components having been fried.  Hoping that when it detects a fault it shuts down to protect itself.

Leaving the cap off for an hour and 10 minutes of wafting a hair dryer over the light lens, this is how it looked.

40-E7726-A-315-B-4466-B465-2-FC9-BCFCCB7

compared to Friday.

Appreciate its not the same angle but….

If I had put it back together it probably would work until it rained again and water gets in. Bearing in mind where I live, when it’s not raining, it’s raining heavily.

I wasnt so lucky, needs a new NSF tyre due to a minor bulge (I am surprised they even picked up on it) but at leasts thats it. New one coming tomorrow direct replacement and then retest and pass I hope.

That is quite a find.  The MOT manual as you would expect is suitably vague and it's left to the examiners opinion.

From the manual Section 5.2.3.

"When assessing lumps or bulges in a radial ply tyre, care should be taken to distinguish between normal undulations in the carcass, resulting from manufacturing, and lumps or bulges caused by structural deterioration."

and

"(ii) with a lump, bulge or tear caused by separation or partial failure of its structure, including any lifting of the tread rubber or with cords exposed or damaged"

Shame its a mark on my so far clean MOT's with this car but hey its not the end of the world right..

Weeeelllllllll 😆

I've got a fail on my history.  First MOT under my ownership while still under warranty, the main dealer failed it on headlight aim..... and then immediately passed it after presumably a tweak of the adjusting screw.  My current MOT examiner, adjusts them during the test if they are out of spec.

What miles are on the wagon @Percha?

Can you even adjust the adaptive xenons I thought they were self leveling only via the sensors in the wheel arches?

You sure can.  6mm allen key is all that is needed.

Turn the black recessed screw as indicated in the red circle.

Started the headlight swap.

IMG-3804.jpg

Got the car jacked up and began to figure out how many plastic rivets needed to be undone.

IMG-3808.jpg

Loads is the answer, and by the time I'd found my rivet removal tool the rain had started so all I did was quickly stick the battery on to charge.
