What did you do to your F10, F11 or F07 today?

@CaesarI'll be interested to know your thoughts on the tyres. I know I like the F1 Asymmetric and they are OK in the winter, except in snow/ice.

The CrossClimate I have considered but never tried, worried about how much you sacrifice in these warmer months. I don't do enough mileage to warrant two sets anymore. The tread would outlast the tyre's age and that feels like a waste.

I haven't had the F1's on either of my current cars, but both have the CrossClimates....I think they're great as an allrounder.

Worrying rear tyre wear on my F11, was thinking it was due to the rear bags and dampers issue but as the two rear shocks were replaced by myself and @Andrew, and the current airbags stay inflated approx 12 hours im thinking it must be a tracking / geometry issue - pics of abnormal wear on winters and current tyres starting to wear on inside the same

@VPCAPTAINSomething must be well out as when I shock each hub when doing your shocks I couldn’t feel anything loose.

Probably worth lifting it back up again and prodding each rear joint with a pry bar. Will take a while but worth double checking everything.

@VPCAPTAIN they all wear like this, I have had rears doing the same over the 4yrs ownership normally when tyre is down to 4mm but sometimes with around 6mm (seems no rhyme or reason to when, maybe just harsh ride dynamics of the car and potholes etc). Specifically my RFT's seem to be more susceptable than non RFT's I have heard.

Worrying rear tyre wear on my F11,

Is the tyre in the first two pics a run-flat? It looks like pics we've seen on the old forum where the stiff run-flat sidewall causes the tread to start separating where the two join.

I've gone through a good few set of tyres on my F11 now. The rears do tend to wear a little more on the inside. I've found the left rear ro be worse in that regard and it seems to wear a bit faster overall than the right. (Mrs CPs F20 does the same. Not sure whether it's just our cars of a more general BMW thing.)  I just swap the fronts and rears after 3-4000 miles to even things out. I had 30000 miles out of a set of Crossclimates before I retired them when one picked up a nail.

Doesn't matter if you don't drive hard, all cars in the UK tend to wear their left tyres slightly more because of roundabouts.

Perhaps if you lived in East Kilbride or Milton Keynes. 😆

In fact I'm more like to wear my front tyres trying to carry momentum through roundabouts rather than the rears while booting it out of them.

I reckon that's what killed my front wheel bearings as I do that on the local twisty roads. Tyres are fine (but I swap them left to right each year), bearings grumbled in protest at being subjected to the change in loadings.

I was checking my tyres at the start of winter (nov last year) and was quite shocked to see the inner edge of the tyres splitting despite having 2.6mm of tread left, Luckily i was swapping to my winter wheels and tyres that day, so they came straight off and now have new ones, but i did look around under the car quite carefully with a pry bar and couldnt find anything particularly worn or loose, so didnt change anything other than the tyres in the end.

Gents

The steering wheel mounted control on the left is a rubber affair and mine has split so needs replacing.

I've ordered one from eBay but the one thats arrived isn't rubber like the original.  It's a hard plastic instead.

Do I send it back or use it?

I'm fussy and like the extra quality of OEM so I'd send it back and get genuine from BMW.

That said, it depends if you can get the part on its own without having to buy a bigger more expensive part. Probably not. That's why I've got a Chinese parking brake button...

My rear tyres wore more on the inside too. I agree, the run flats had the same unequal wear pattern, but more pronounced.

My E61 rear tyre wear was exactly the same.

Got the Silverstone driver's door card on, resplendent with new interior door handle. Feels so nice... Also got a speaker upgrade from the M5 with it.

Gave it a wash with something other than water. Think that's a first since I've owned it, normally just a hose and mitt.

I swapped mine over a couple of years back. The OE ones really were tatty after 2 years of police use and 2 more of mine.

Likewise I got the Chinese replacement button rather than a new BMW unit and I actually much prefer these. The hard plastic feels clean and positive with every use whereas the OE rubbered ones always felt squidgy, especially in the 30c+ summers we get over here.

Changing them over was very simple with assistance from a couple of YouTube videos showing breakdown of the steering wheel.

Got flashed 5 times last trip in Feb and nothing arrived.  Germany have some new red flashy ones.  And use Google maps, best by far
