What did you do to your F10, F11 or F07 today?

Recommended Posts

Arrived this morning from Carpartsinmotion, less than 24hrs after ordering.

Appears to be physically the same and at least this pulley has a cover on so it might not get so crusty over the coming years.

Still uses a Koyo pulley, the very same one I can't find for sale separately.

Fitted the new mirror glass on the passenger side, the car is still complaining about a heating or dimming error, but using a laser thermometer the glass is at least now heating up as per the drivers side and tbh that’s the main thing I wanted working.  Will probably have to revisit the wiring.

also added a load of dynamat to the rear of the android screen bracket to try and fix some creaky noises at the top of the dash, minor but with the radio low easy to hear, however it’s no different so it wasn’t that! Further investigation needed!

Yeah it still says error is present and stored so I can't delete it.  Before I had the new connectors I messed around and did get it to clear but still complaining now I've wired in the new connectors.  So its 1 of 2 things, either the wiring is fine for the heating and not for the dip or the new mirror has faulty dip (but tbh I'd expect either both to work or not work if it was the mirror), so I'll check the wiring for the dip:

Purple is + Dip
Black is - Dip
Red is + Heat
Brown is - Heat

Found this on e90post:

Used the cruise control for the first time in ages, more like years. For once I was on an empty road and could actually use it.

It's a really weird sensation slowing down on the rear brakes only.

Booked the car into the garage for 12th Feb to have a few bits done:

- Install the Bilstein B12 Pro-Kit
- Install PowerFlex bushes in all the front control arms
- Replace front wheel bearings

Hopefully, that should sort the vague steering and floatiness. I will create a thread closer to the time to document the journey.

I have the 676 HiFi option on my F11 and it's not really befitting of the car. The base system in our Audi A3 sounds clearer and more rounded.

I decided on the MATCH amplifier made by Audiotec Fischer because it's totally plug & play. There's a plate that uses the factory mounting point and the harness is one plug into the OEM one. The amp is about 270g heavier, no great surprise considering it has close to triple the power output...

I haven't uploaded the car specific tune yet but immediately it has much better clarity, volume (not just when loud) and no distortion. It has real punch and the DSP gives a more complex soundstage, with lots of options to play with.

I had already swapped in some speakers from a Harman Kardon M5 I got with the door cards, but only the front as the rears/front centre use a smaller template. The new amp drives them much better. Even the centre speaker is a component and aftermarket ones only come as a pair usually, so I've found an HK centre speaker which will do for now (yet to arrive, that's the stock base one). It was only £30 and the centre is less important.

Arriving tomorrow or Monday are some MATCH speakers to complete the upgrade. I've got front and rear components and the two underfloor 'subwoofers'. Pushing the volume up this afternoon demonstrated it's worth getting some higher power speakers to match (pun intended). I've got to get the front door cards off anyway and the rears are in the roof so super easy access.

I've upgraded speakers many times on previous cars and it's always been disappointing. Now I know why it's recommended to upgrade the amplifier first!

I did similar with mine, I only had base audio and there was no way I could live with it, it was pathetic. I went for the Vibe Powerbox for BMW amp (small enough to tuck in under the head unit) and replaced the speakers with Match components (base has no tweeters either! so wanted to add them). Finally I added Focal 4ohm underseat subs as the stock ones are garbage, as mine is base audio all the speakers are 4ohm and the subs are in line to the door speakers, so had to go with a company that makes a 4ohm version.

its still not as good as the HK I had in my F30 but its soooooo much better, and now fine for my tone deaf ears! And also way better than the standard audio in my wife’s Tiguan.

you won’t be disappointed with Match 👍

Do you boys not just listen to the engine?

It’s the best soundtrack in my car until I’m in the mood for some Iron Maiden.

In a derv? Not flipping likely!
Tho it was better in my old 335d as I switched the active sound to M4 😆

Got the refurbished wheels and new tyres ready for fitting.

Wheel colour is Reflex Silver A44

I found a website that sells very convincing M Sport badges at very reasonable prices (have bought cheap ones from eBay before but the M was white/dull instead of silver).

https://www.cyled.co.uk/bmw-badges-wheel-badges?page=2

Which is the best combo of the three?

1: Grey

2: Black, yellow and red

3: Factory original

What colour is your car @Munzy

Space Grey F11 - I tried the wheels a dark grey and didn't like them so back to silver.

I do like factory but I really like the subtle grey badges for just a wee bit of individuality 🙂

Same as mine. I like the black badge with the German M for something different. The previous owner of my C63 had something similar and I left it on during my ownership. IMG_20180806_085852_01.thumb.jpg.3200ea092e3c295906f4b0ad835d3d7d.jpg

Alternator fitted as expected. The old one span perhaps a little too freely and was slightly noisy.

IMG20240203124109.thumb.jpg.fa236437bfa8f4f048eddcf345cca4a6.jpg

The job entails several steps to release the alternator.

- Remove the radiator fan, air intake and charge pipe to open up access.

- Undo the three bolts holding the AC compressor. Two are visible up top and one is underneath on the right hand side, so is done by feel reaching down in front of the engine and round the corner (this is the hardest part but it's reachable). Also remove the bolt holding the AC lines within the belt loop. Then the AC compressor just slides off the dowels and can sit resting on the subframe out of the way.

- Now there's space to unbolt the positive alternator cable and unplug the connection, remembering to disconnect the battery first of course.

- Remove the lower two alternator bolts and crack loose the top two.

- Loosen the three bolts now visible on the bracket that holds the AC and half the alternator. They only need to be unthreaded a few turns, no need to remove the bracket.

- Now the bracket can hinge out of the way just enough to pull the alternator out, after removing the top two bolts.

IMG20240203124133.thumb.jpg.7ed98a70d5046668849605915f0b3792.jpg

- All the AC, bracket and alternator bolts are 19Nm but two of the AC bolts you can't get a torque wrench on so I went with good'n'tight with a small 1/4" wrench.

The belt chatter has gone, which was the main reason I changed it, plus it had done 100k miles.

These are the HiFi speakers vs Harman Kardon. Both are not very powerful but the base ones are really pants, tiny magnet and uncoated paper cone. For now I'm using a HK one for my front centre channel.

This is the MATCH mid speaker, it's notably heavier with a much better magnet.

Crossover tucked away nicely in the roof cavity and covered the plug to stop any potential rattles.

It was a bit late tonight to crank up the volume so will try them out in the morning. Next up will be the underseat woofers.
