Replacement old style blade key

Recommended Posts

I have lost a suitcase on recent trek abroad well BA lost the case, in it was my spare key for the old beemer.  I have phoned BMW and its £176 for a replacement key and then £90 for half hour labour to code it.

Anyone know of any other hopefully cheaper and more importantly remote service to get this done?  I can get a key housing and blade as used an ebay service before but it doesn't have the chipset.  So im away out in the sticks over on the western isles so its trying to organize to get car over to BMW and then have it done.  So if anyone has someone they have used that would be great.

Thanks

Mark

I have used these guys before Mark and found them A1.  Apart from repairs they do replacement keys so would be worth contacting them before giving BMW the price of a mini weekend.  The phone number is in the photo or look them up on google.

Perfect, I will give them a call.  Did they need your car or can you do the coding ourselves?

BMW don't code the keys, Park Lane have the mythical key vault where they create a new key from records they keep, it arrives and works.

If BA lost the key, then you simply go get a new key from BMW and they pay it, that's how it works if they accepted liability.

Never go get a locksmith special as they're £10 Chinese crap that don't have the factory rechargeable battery, why settle for less than genuine when technically, it's a free key.

You go in armed with your V5, passport and utility bill (I think) and they order one up, you collect it 2-3 days later.

Certainly agree that if BA accept liability then that is the way to go.  I recommended that particular locksmith as I too fell foul of other cheaper alternatives to fixing my faulty key which turned out a waste of money.  This outfit are much more pricey and the results for me show why.  As they advertise replacement keys I thought it would be worth a shout if all else fails.  Costs nought to enquire.

Very true, that’s what I’ll do get receipt and claim it back.

The guy in the service at BMW said they need the car in.

I watched methods of coding if I have the old key does that not work?  In ignition turn to 1 and then take out push buttons and so on?

Sorry pal, it's all bollocks and the usual lack of knowledge of the twat dealing with you. The CAS has 10 key slots, all pre filled with the transponder codes, they are all active from the factory, you can however turn them on and off with ISTA, there is no coding, no programming, they come via Park Lane who are the only dealership in the UK owned by BMW so they are the only ones who can make keys to work via the CAS slots.

Problems arise when people have let locksmiths hack the CAS and change the encryption to match the £10 Chinesium keys they buy, I can't stand it done that way as BMW will no doubt get a key to slot 4 and slot 4 has been hacked by the locksmith, you then end up with BMW wanting to sell a CAS kit that comes with keys £££££££££

Nightmare, ah that makes sense.

I might just call parkland direct then and see what they say.  I can easy prove ownership to them so hopefully they can sell me one in next key slot.

Thanks for the info much appreciated.

I bet mine has been hacked.

It came with one after market key and I had someone add a second key for me, also aftermarket. I didn't know about this until today so I bet mine is operating via the hacked route. 🤔

Oh for the old days when a shiny Cortina key opened most other ones, hence the creation of a few new millionaires who sold steering wheel locks and other useless deterrents.

My first car was a Vauxhall Viva; you could open the door and start it with any small coin 😝

I used to be able to start my old escort with a coin happy days.

Plus there were so many old cars then that had the top corner of their doors out of alignment due to them being wedged open to get a coat hanger in and down to pull the door lock knob up.  Car construction then was not at its best.  I had a Vauxhall Cresta, (with the rear wings) and a floor pan so rotten that Barney Rubble would have refused it.
