Would assume a few grand to put by doing a shed load of things from full cooling and suspemsion refresh to ccv disa vanos etc. Plus suspension shocks and bushes as well as rear subframe bushes and air bags. All good if already done but it is just that sort of mileage. And has the autobox fluid ever been changed, I wonder. Nice colour though. So £4k for the car. £2k for a new box. £2k - £3k minimum for all the work I mentioned. Finally £2k for paint. A bargain. Think I will hang on to my boring titan silver example. Not really the point I was making. That was a "finger in the air" estimate. However, the point you raise may be worth a discussion in itself or even a new thread. The estimate I made was based on a telephone call to an Autobox specialist nearby recommended by the garage I then used, when I had an issue that looked as if a new box might be needed. My recollection was £1800. Data in the public domain is hard to find but here are a couple of specialists (unverified as to quality): https://www.theautomaticgearboxcompany.co.uk/pricelist/BMW.htm https://reengineeredtransmissions.co.uk/bmw/bmw-5series-2000 Second one looks too cheap. I would suggest a call to Dartford Transmissions for a budget estimate as that is the company most recommended, as far as I recall, on this and the old forum.
