duncan-uk
Not for my e39 but the alfa but i need to remove the glass to go from LHD to RHD - do people bake in the oven? What sort of temp? and what are we using to reseal? TIA
4aceman
Usually the older cars will have clip on lenses and rubber gaskets. You’ll have to investigate how the alfa does it, but should be pretty obvious
Sharkfan
I have baked my E39 headlights twice now - once 13 years ago to replace the plastic adjusters with aluminium and last year to replace the tired outer lenses. Both times I use the lowest (electric) setting and perhaps up it a tiny amount, and I seem to recall using some black silkafix sealant for some small areas.

duncan-uk
No suggest not: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226036149202?itmmeta=01HRX1WW5KZD6KS4EB3XSV8WAA&hash=item34a0cdebd2:g:PYoAAOSwuJpedo2x&itmprp=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8D%2B%2FAzQ9ijH5jVKX1VwlhIe8aW9nWWHnKAjHimVspSa3uUzW6toXI2egfy77KKSv6yRILNokuvwGbW2tbKWN8RkTtJnedT%2BfKkHFs58LrsBPNnKdHH9Feu0xanfRm874Q095W%2Ba47CKNtmUiOaeIq8DtPlF9qNZB9Y0ASOzrcsqj68qeKIWazJIx6a54%2B5NHDuLlo7LoQ4BRII7hmbqZTjpn%2BhrLO2Wbl03ySUm79gypXAiKMfLo1eIlDSK5Khyk%2FCQ0DtEUYB0SJMUOA4t8f8MUfYcHEbrYp5r7%2BbLqfyBrEtnduRubVLxqZAGDJDmGrA%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR4TD86HHYw Heats probably the way - would rather not break them seeing as my new RHD lenses have made it from Cyprus unscathed! E39M5
It depends what there sealed with, an easy way to tell is if there’s any screws that hold the lens to the case remove one and see if it’s butyl or not, if it’s butyl it’ll soft and sticky on the threads, if it’s permaseal like Sikaflex then it’ll be more of a silicone consistency if it’s the latter generally best way in is to cut the lens off with dremmel and the pull what’s left out of the channel, if there butyl then some time in the oven and they’ll come apart no problem
