At the risk of being banned - my latest old BMW

So, after looking around for a nice E34 / E32 to buy for under £5000 and failing miserably, I decided to look around for something else. It didn’t have to be a BMW - any interesting car within budget would be considered.

Then this came up in Perth. It’s the 1.9 M44 engined version, and while it’s not overburdened with power at just 140bhp, it’s nice enough to drive, and I drove it home from Perth to Inverness in 5th.

the plan is to tidy up what’s there and fix a few things like the dash illumination, some trim bits etc, and generally get it as close to original as possible. No non standard bits will be fitted. Needs a clutch, as the current one is high and heavy, and I'll do a service and a coolant change.

Crap pics as I copied them from the seller, will put some new ones up soon.

Looks tidy that Mark. Love that colour green from the 90's.

Do I see that it has no aircon? Not that it matters in a vert!!

Boston Green - Not as nice as Oxford, but I'm happy with it!  No aircon, but I drove it home with the hood closed and I was OK!  At this age, it's one less thing to go wrong Rupert - and I like that!

That’s an Individual colour, isn’t it?  Looks great on an E38.

Yep. There is a rhd E38 Alpina B12 6.0 in mora metallic, but this is the Z3...

Had a great day with the old Z3 today. Replaced all the blown bulbs - light switch, cigar lighter, ventilation panel and ashtray - so ALL the dashboard lights now work. Removed the ridiculous neon flashy stereo and fitted a nice CD43. Removed and sprayed the front tweeter covers, and replaced the missing or broken door card clips.  Fitted chrome rings on the ventilation panel to match the instruments. Happy with all that!

Going to the garage on Tuesday for a clutch and a good service.

Need to find a dash blank to replace the headlamp levelling switch that’s currently filling the hole!!!

My youngest daughter and I got out for a blast in this wee thing today. So much better now after it’s had a nice new clutch, a good service and a badly fitted exhaust sorted.

Next garage job will be to change the springs. The ones on the car are new, but way too high - higher at the front than standard non M sport ones. Handles and rides well, but steering lightens up a bit at speed. Going for a set 30mm lower than standard - hopefully a good compromise!
