iDrive (NBT EVO version) - Connected Drive Apps behaviour?

BMW updated my G31 (2018) software as part of the EGR safety recall.

I have the NBT EVO version of idrive.

When I got the car back the idrive was stuck on "starting online entertainment" screen and didn't change for 2-3 days (despite several resets).

Now I notice that BMW Connected Drive apps download each time I wake the car up.

When I first get in the car I can sit and watch the apps slowly appear one by one in the connected drive menu as they download.  This can happen multiple times per day depending on how I am using the car

BMW connected drive support are useless, they copy and paste the same reset instructions in every email

The dealership has had the car back, run diagnostics, reset the idrive and says the apps load in 45 seconds so it's ok (no idea where they get this from)

My issue is that the idrive is now 100% reliant on strong signal for apps to download and be made available. If there isnt a strong signal then the apps freeze.

I'm sure my idrive never used to do this, I don't ever recall not being able to access all the apps straight away.

Am I mistaken in my recollection of how the idrive works and does anyone elses iDrive behave like this?
