Andrew
Check if your BMW is ok. to drive in Scottish City Centres https://www.lowemissionzones.scot/vehicle-registration-checker These zones are exclusion zones, if your car doesn't meet the requirements its a fine, there is no option to pay a daily charge. From my seat in my office on St Vincent Street I can watch a considerable number of older style Black Cab Taxis still plying their trade which will not be allowed in after 1st June 2023 here in Glasgow. My F10 is o.k. but the equivalent age and same engine size powered by Diesel would not be allowed in. Ok so in theory its a 10 year old car now but its far greener to drive an older car than have a new one built
Andrew
This just sums up the people who run Glasgow City Council. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-65861870 They bring in a LEZ but almost 50% of the councils own vehicles are banned from entering the LEZ. Yet there was money for Susan Aitken (Council Leader) to fly with wee Nippy to Egypt for COP27 when they weren’t invited…. Glasgow City Council killing Glasgow City. dj123
It’s also a piss take it’s a fine, and there’s no ‘payable’ access fee is ridiculous. Especially if you accidentally entered the area or need to get there on a one off basis and are not able to use public transport. With the ULEZ expansion zone it falls to within a mile of my office, so i’l still able to drive there - just. But can no longer visit the shopping centre up the road and pick up bits. Oh well, less money for high street retailers and more for the onliners. Due to ULEZ expansion, a friend at work within his family (himself, wife & both sets of parents) had to change 5 cars. They didn’t go new, but still had to move on perfectly good cars to get ones which fit the new goal posts.
Andrew
Another interesting story about the recently introduced LEZ in Glasgow. https://www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/scottish-news/air-pollution-increases-glasgow-low-30264072.amp
Andrew
Glasgow City Council are currently raking it in from the fines. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-business-65935598 Including from the owner of this lovely beastie. That M5 won't have given out anywhere near the emission that todays soulless Teslas emit during their construction phase.
Ray112
All these ulez areas are only to make money and nothing more. Because there isn't actual co2 or nox target which can be emitted or something similar. For example some 1.5tdi Ford fiesta with £30 year road tax (some were even £0 road tax if I recall it right) definitely will produce less emissions than some new V8 range rover, but because one is euro5 but other is euro6, smaller engine and less polluting car can't go into these zones without paying, while more polluting car is absolutely fine to drive there. Couldn't be more stupid classification than it has been made.
Andrew
Last week it was confirmed that Glasgow City Council had raked in a staggering £600,000 worth of fines in July alone. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-66512629.amp Which is sorely needed, as they themselves have spent £100,000 on hired in LEZ complaint vehicles so they don't get fined themselves. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-66512629.amp Stupid is as stupid does.
