Drivers airbag recall

Recommended Posts

Another recall letter in the post this morning. I almost didn't open it thinking it was just a reminder for the EGR coolers which I've just had done but no. Apparently my drivers airbag wants to kill me ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Anyone else had one of these? My car is a 2014 lci model. Hard to believe it's taken 9 years for them to notice this issue.

The same problem had been going on since at least 2002. My E46 and E39 both had the same recall (I still need to book the E39 in).

The airbag manufacturer for BMW (among many other brands) cheaped out on the explosive material and handling of it. It becomes unstable after a while and when triggered will shoot shrapnel into your face.

Ah OK, it was news to me. Considering I've been driving the car for 4 years and approaching 100000 miles it's disappointing they've only just got round to letting me know.

I didn't even get a letter, only found out on the govt check mot history site...

My car has this showing as of today...

But as it only had the EGR recall completed on Monday it might just be that still showing. I'm guessing it won't say 'Recalls' if you have more than one so the airbag issue might be included.

I remember checking for recall notices last year sometime and there was nothing showing at all. It seems BMW knew about the airbag issue long before my car was built yet still continued to fit the potentially lethal units long after that.

We have a 2013 F20 here which I've checked for outstanding Recalls. There's nothing showing as of today. Is it only certain models affected or is there likely to be another letter coming? I'll ask at the dealer if they can confirm whether it's been done or not when I go to book mine in.

I heard about this recall earlier, mine isnโ€™t affected and I know @VPCAPTAINs much newer F11 isnโ€™t affectedย

I have the triangle shaped steering wheel (airbag) cover, I know of one F10 owner whoโ€™s car is recalled but it has a circular steering wheel cover.ย

Those who are affected, whatโ€™s the age of your car and style of steering wheel? Trying to figure out if there is a pattern to it.ย

Seems to be around 2014 and across the BMW range so style of steering wheel doesn't seem to matter. Same recall for F30s and F45s of the same era.
