Ordnator 2
Arrived home from work to find a set of staggered 16 inch Classic C71 Alpina wheels on the door step, courtesy of UPS. Date stamped from 1982, not bad looking for a 40 year old set of alloys. Look to have been refurbished / powder coated in the past. Destined for the Zobelbraun eta once I acquire some tires and get them mounted. Best regards, Mick
duncan-uk
How's the Bronzit Beige coming along Mick?
Ordnator 2
Hi Duncan, Bronzitbeige eta is currently residing with Steve at Classic Bahnstormers. You may recognise the rear passenger door. Part way through a body restoration and re-paint. Here are some shots of the work carried out to date: Being treated as a slow time filler job for Steve when he is not busy. However, Bahnstormers has taken off and they are busy 👍 Best regards, Mick

Ordnator 2
I was evacuated from my home on Sunday 28th May due to an out of control wildfire in Tantallon Nova Scotia. We were finally allowed to go home last night after 7 days away and it is with great joy that I can report that the Diamantschwartz Eta and the Zobelbraun Eta are safe and well in the garage and are undamaged. Many others were not so fortunate with 200 structures including 150 homes consumed by the wildfire. Stay safe, Best regards, Mick

Hi John, Thank you, we survived a testing week with no direct impact to our property. Many others have not been so lucky, some loosing homes that have been in the same family for many generations. The only minor issue we had was the grass grew and needed cutting. We went on holiday two days after being allowed home so after nearly four weeks we now need a few goats. Lawn has re-seeded nicely though. On the day we raced the fire up Hammonds Plains road to get home and grab some important stuff, just prior to the evacuation order being issued. Witnessed nature in all its pure destructive fury with 200 foot + high flames being fanned by a strong and sustained 50 knot on-shore wind. Mother nature reminding us how insignificant we are in the grand scheme of things... Best regards, Mick
JohnH
Mick, I was a bit concerned when you didnt reply. Pleased to hear you were on holiday! We used to get fires in Wellington. Most of the hills around the city were covered in gorse and in December and January there were some worrying fires. We had a few near Northland where we lived in the late 1950's. Regards John. Ordnator 2
Added an extra 5 horse power upgrade to the Diamantschwartz eta Replaced the original black cooling fan with the "go faster" red fan: Used my trusty Draper 32 mm Fan Hub Wrench to remove the left hand threaded viscous fan hub nut: More Power... JohnH
Fitted mine last year after a head gaskit malfunction. Makes a world of a difference, best mod I have ever made! You need the right tools. The pully holder being the most useful.
duncan-uk
Why did I not know about these magic fans when I had mine!!
Steve VH
Or, a normal 32mm combination spanner with a Philips screwdriver wedged between the pulley bolts to stop it turning, will make removing the viscous fan a cinch.

duncan-uk
Power was not the issue but my loss your gain.
Sharkfan
I thought those red fans were E28 Coupe only 😄
Ordnator 2
Checked the Diamantschwartz eta valve clearances today with the following results (all dimensions in mm): Cylinder: 1 2 3 4 5 6 Inlet valve: 0.15 0.20 0.20 0.15 0.20 0.20 Exhaust valve: 0.20 0.20 0.15 0.15 0.20 0.20 Suspect the main dealer has used the M20B20 post 1985 value 0.20 mm, back when I had the head refreshed in 2014. All valves now reset to the M20B27 value of 0.25 mm (Haynes Manual). The bum test during the test drive indicates the engine feels to be running a little more smoothly under load and definitely smoother when idling. Enjoy your weekend. Ordnator 2
On Friday I changed the insurance from garaged to road use for the Diamantschwartz eta. Today I put a fresh tank of petrol in and went for a 50 mile shake down drive. Some motorway and spirited A-road driving. Pulled through the remainder of last summers fuel and now running sweet and smooth of fresh fuel Have a good weekend. Ordnator 2
Took the Diamantschwartz eta to "All Euro Automotive" in Lower Sackville for an MVI (MoT) Passed with two advisories, nearside front wheel bearing has wear as does the idler arm. Steve is a master technician who knows his way around BMW's. Happy days. Have a good weekend. Best regards, Mick
