If you did top mounts at the same time, it can take a couple of months to get back to the right height. Springs, a few weeks.

I reused top mounts, seemed to be in good condition. Springs already seemed were very close to previous height after installation. Probably 10mm or so higher, nothing too obvious, so in a week or two it should be back to usual height.

just curiosity - what is the lifetime of a suspension + shock of a car?  i mean the OEM one?  assuming normal use.  Cos mine is 16yrs, 100k miles and still all original but it feels like shit from the front when taking bumps...

Well you surely don't get this in the UK 🇬🇧…you wash it and find it like this…south wind and sand from Sahara Desert!

We do get it, but like once in couple years. Usually it something local news keep writing about for weeks after.

Interesting.  At least you get the clean rain afterwards 🙂 we had the driest winter - that is almost no rain at all! Life is getting tougher .. and yeah the bmw won’t rust here 😂

Why are you always ruining this guy's day?

Couldn't you give him some comfort, like 16.5yrs or 105K? 👌

Thx for the love ❤️ humour…

the mars finger man keeps feeding my ocd delicious food 🙂  …but luckily the ocd is terrified from ‘the wife’ when it comes to bills 😂

I'd take that over this constant frigging rain

+1

At least if it's nice outside you don't mind being out there washing the thing.

Try doing an Active Cruise Retrofit outside in the rain and wind..... 😁

Those with good weather don't know how good they have it.

Some people moan about a bit of sand in the rain ... should see the UK potholes these days.

Near miss for blow out - bust my 18 MV2 8.5 rear somehow/potholes...  I think you lot warned me they were a bit fragile.

3 cracks found - looks scrap ?  How the Pirelli did not let go is beyond me. See horror shots.

It did not feel too bad on the road.  I have some spare 17s on while I work out what to do.

Wheels were off in Feb for service and break checks etc.

I only spotted when under rear, as I  was checking rear air bags as one had been going down slowly over several days.

I have MV2's and a spare set without tyres needing a refurb (those came from my car) and were in use until I found a spare set with newish tyres. One could have a little dent in it but no buckles or cracks. Quite a few are available in FB marketplace if you need a 1 or 2.

They are made by BBS so if those as an OEM wheel are considered shite I don't know what is considered good.

Running very low profile tyres doesn't help. Your 35 profile tyre is the wrong size for the MV2 18" they should be 245/40 from factory. I'm even thinking of going 235/45 profile on mine, but they carry a 20% price premium (fekkers). Also the MV2 e60 fitment are 8J wide not 8.5. Are you sure you have OEM MV2 and not some copies?

Those tyres are also RFT's no?

E46 has staggered MV2's, offset is way off for the E60 chassis so we usually point and mock when people try and pass them off for E60 wheels on the facebook groups. The 8.5J is an E46 wheel

Ahh, that would be it, an e46 rear wheel then. I forgot those were staggered and I remember their offset is wrong and higher than the ET20 on the e60.

Thank you Prof G and Humour -> correct as usual. I have a spacers on the 8.5J from E46 !  No not run flats

I did not realise when I bought the E46 wheels  and then had to put spacers on, which have been fine, checked them a few times till sure they are secure.

I was just running tyre size calcs to look at taller sidewalls too. Fronts are 225/40/18s on 8j are which 45s might be better  0.5 inch higher and 3% change in speed.

I run 225 50 r17 on our other one and they are more forgiving - they might be going on the car that is carrying the load. See picky - I have them powder coated darker.

Cracked wheel MV2 - I have been to local wheel refurb place who I know a bit and he thinks they are repairable as small cracks.  Not sure I have done the right thing though.

To be fair mv2 are quite robust and holding up well, me doing 20k miles a year with definitely not the calmest driving style hasn't managed to damage anything, neither my missus. Spider wheels are made of chocolate and crack from sneezing next to car.

Get yourself a set of E60 MV2's, refurb, then fit a set of 245/40 or 235/45 tyres on them and roll on happily down the road.

Wheels are repairable, but then you may run into balancing issues, or the repair may not hold, etc. The money you will spend repairing your E46 wheel will buy you a set of 4 e60 MV2's that need a refurb.

Just make sure you are not buying cracked or bent rims.

I would sell you my spare set but I can't guarantee 1 wheel isn't a bit eggy/bent.

Here are some options.... https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/942051660825718/ or https://www.facebook.com/share/p/kCE6AqYFUfngH6i3/

Thanks for thoughts and  the link that is a good deal. Having 4 matching tyres/wheels is easier too.

Unless there is something very wrong with spacers on the e46 mv2s, I think I am going to wear out/enjoy  the P Zeros that have good tread. I will put them on our car that runs  less weight.

Swapped out the air compressor on my E61 for a refurbished AMK unit. My family has recently expanded so with the extra weight of a pram in the boot I was getting suspension errors on the dash that was playing with my ocd!

also took the opportunity to fix the problem I caused the last time I was fiddling and get the bonnet back open and reconnect the release. Man that was a bitch trying to get in to do that.

About 5 years ago I enquired about a new rack for my car, BMW were only offering refurb units, I contacted ZF in Nottingham who said they stopped production and sold the rights to Bosch. Bosch replied and said they had stopped production, then that is where the hunt ended.
Last month I was having a look for another lad and saw what I assumed was a company listing them that wouldn't be able to get stock...
Hello you sexy new bastard!

Yes it's £1200, BMW will pull your pants down for £1600 for a refurb and 2.5k for a new one... This is a ZF rack with a Bosch sticker on it. Eye watering price new from BMW https://www.online-parts.co.uk/bmw-spare-parts/search_results.php?keywords=32102475178

What's wrong with yours?

and yeah that's an eye watering sum event at the discounted price.

I would have thought there are specialists out there that could rebuild them, but depends on the issue I suppose.

Today I did the rear upper control arms. Couple of issues. Firstly I really need a new padlock for the shed because my father in law has been pilfering my spanner’s especially the 16mm you need for this! Second issue the near side was very difficult to extract the bolt from the bush but it’s done. I just need to get an alignment now.

also took some time to remove the exhaust tips and give them a polish. What a difference!

Slight bush play in the ends and wear in the middle, not bad but beyond 99% of places that rebuild them as it would need the main bar having material added, this is why I hate refurbs. It would cost close to that to have a heritage specialist do the work on it.
