Tallman85
Hello guys Lately my car feels more like a boat on the road…it wont keep straight and it sort off moves around on the road - i need to correct all the time. duncan-uk
People mocked when i said things like this... Have a look at my thread in the F10/11 section. Not the same car but might give you some pointers.
Ian
I can't see that thread, but my 2009 e61 does seem to need constant correction to keep it straight. It does handle it's weight well though
Tallman85
Same as mine unfortunately. I am not sure if the problem is the front or the rear. I don’t think they should drive like this… @Gonzo / @Clavurion any ideas for us pls? thx Edited November 25, 2022 by Tallman85
bmwmike
Start with the simple stuff. Check tyre pressures and make sure they are spot on. Check tyre wear carefully it will tell you lots about how the suspension is working. Check ride height for evidence of broken spring Check shocks for leaks. Then start for fixes.. alignment, new tyres if needed, get the suspension linkages check for play and replace if needed.. etc.

Gonzo
I've had one in this week, apart from shagged shocks and discs it came in for a full front control arm kit with tie rods and I did rear rose bushes and trailing arm bushes. Tallman85
Probably mine needs something like this to be accurate once again…
olliecampbell
Mine definitely needs something like this! I can't imagine how much it would cost to sort out though. I did find that tyres played a big part in handling. Admittedly mine had 3 different makes on when I bought it, but new Crossclimates helped quite a bit. Tallman85
Well my tires are fine, correct pressure etc… so it must be something else that is causing my car to sail on the road!

For the rear Axle, Arms, and various other smaller parts, also £250-300 ish. So parts alone, it's £500+! If the parts have a life expectancy of 5+ years (better 10), then it's not that expensive and just one of many such perishable parts that need to be done in time. These cars are 15+ years old after all. I will be replacing mine, but not on the priority list for now.
Bmwsmx
Meyle hd kit is the way to go for the front control arms as a good quality aftermarket option. Done my front suspension this time last year and the car drives great.
