  1. Twice this year we’ve had a hard frost. Twice I can’t get in to the car. i bought some Gummi the first time thinking it was the soft rubber beading on the inner door and frame. Turns out this morning it was the harder external rubber trim that had literally frozen on to the metal of the door. used a bag filled with warm water got one open so I could start the car… is there a magic cream/oil for this part/rubber? all doors frozen solid and the boot too that has similar rubber on the bottom of the window.
  2. Second time out with the bikes on the roof. all going well so far. And it’s amazing how far drivers stay behind you 🙂
  3. Any idea about step 3? Not sure even if I had a torque wrench I could attach it to the bolt or supplied tool, to tighten to 8nm. It’s like hex, but curved and far enough down the post to make it hard to get a socket over. every other bolt is 4nm Allen key which you tighten down with a supplied 4nm torque wrench, like in step 5.
  4. Committed. Ordered the Thule kit all in black with through bars, as I think they look cooler than flush. 2017) TU598B - Roof mounting bike carrier: Thule black ProRide 598 x2 TULB01 - Our unique lock matching service for Thule locks: Please delete this line if you do not wish to participate x8 TU7107 - Foot Pack: Thule fixpoint Evo feet (4) no. 710700 BMW 5 series four door saloon (2010 to 2017) x1 TU7113B - Thule Evo WingBars black: Thule Evo 127cm black WingBars (2) no. 711320 BMW 5 series four door saloon (2010 to 2017) x1 TU7027 - Adapter Kit: Thule Evo and Edge fixpoint adapter kit no. 7027 BMW 5 series four door saloon (2010 to 2017) x1 TU7107-5 - Roof bar accessories: Thule fixpoint kit covers (4 units) no. 710750 BMW 5 series four door saloon (2010 to 2017)
  5. @Munzy I’ve spent a little time today looking and concluded the OEM look high. Currently swayed towards the Thule through bars in black. My car is same colour (space gray or what ever they call it) as a saloon. roofbox good to buy from then? alternative is I can get it all from Halfords.
  6. @Percha thanks for confirming. I think the BMW ones are made by Thule anyway, but will look at that Thule wing bar tomorrow a bit more if it’s meant to be quieter. Hoping to get my 11 year old in to some biking. Few nice places near me (Delamere). He show's no interest in racing expensive RC cars around a race track with me, so hopefully this will do the trick for some bonding and less computer game time.
  7. Evening all. Asking a silly question…. BMW eBay have a bike rack setup for the F10 listed. Links for bars and rack below. My car is a 66 plate F10 and eBay says it isn’t compatible. I messaged BMW on eBay for the item and they never responded. is there something I might be missing here? Or just eBay got wrong data? I defo have the screw holes on the roof. finally…for those with experience, any reason not to buy these? I’ll likely keep my car for another few years. Only done 35k and it’s pretty much all the car I need. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194195212047?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ivhsJMteRHm&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=Rz2XMTLuR--&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195293985464?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ivhsJMteRHm&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=Rz2XMTLuR--&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  8. thought so. Thanks. think I’ll wait until my tyres need changing, which is soon.
  9. Speaking of wheels. My 66 plate wheels are starting to bubble around the centre. There is a local guy who is meant to be good, but before I go to him, I just want to validate my assumption that BMW won’t do anything for free or partially as a gesture of good will? I’ll give them a call maybe, thoughts?
  10. Issue one: I have a passenger offside external door handle rattle. Swing door shut, or just tap the window and the handle rattles. is it simple to remove the handle to give it a check over? Might be something loose I guess. Any guides? issue two. When it’s icy do people get a load of cabin noise from ice built up around the saloon boot lid? Just car idling but also worse at speed, the boot lid rubs the ice. Terrible noise. Confirm by opening the boot and driving a short distance. thanks.
  11. Can someone recommend a decent seal protector for doors. was proper locked out of the car this morning as all doors frozen. i hear aerospace 303 is good? And importantly instock
  12. Thanks. I was going down the path of Wera tools. As I have a small one to maintain my Rc nitro clutch. The bigger versions seem very expensive though 😕
  13. That’s good to know thanks. I always use bmw screen wash just on the safe side as mixing leads to problems apparently. I've got an odb reader but not used it for a while. what’s the best free app to use these days?
  14. Just done my annual grommet inspection. not much in there which is good. cleared out all the leaves from the sides above the arches with a grabber. I’ve poured a garden can of water to each side to make sure it drains reasonably quickly. ive not done the wheel arches way as yet. I dont have the tools to get the wheels off, but might over summer. I do have spare plastic push studs or whatever they’re called. what’s a good quality breaker bar and torque wrench to buy?
  15. I have the f10. And pretty much said the exact same to myself a few years ago. i do low mileage and when I do go places it’s a good run. 7 years old now and only done 35k. after the AUC ran out I’ve always just got the bmw warranty. First few years I paid to have a 250£ excess with roadside, until yesterday. In a matter of days I’ve had fuel in the oil reported and a windscreen pump stop working (no noise) and then start working…so I imagine something is starting to fail. I literally just renewed last night and decided to go for the £100 excess as I fear whilst low mileage, with the age of the car, age will make things fail. my experience is that with anything you see go wrong you have to pay for the investigation. If they don’t find anything, or what they find isn’t covered, then you’re still paying for the investigation. I guess that seems logical…but at first it didn’t to me. so my fuel in the oil I’ve paid out £180 as part investigation part fresh oil. And they still haven’t found the problem as yet. so even with no excess id have paid this until they find the reason and I guess i get back the investigation costs and maybe the oil too. I don’t think any other warranty comes close and at least if you challenge it’s all with the same company. can’t remember all the prices but for comp with roadside and 250£ excess it was 680£ and for 100£ excess it was 870£
