  1. I haven't totted it up recently but I'm fairly certain I've spent about £5,000 on keeping the 530d in tip-top condition. Roll on November when it goes to the body shop for a new front bumper with paint and fitting (Also single which is how I get away with this) 😄
  2. It's definitely time to get that done. Mine fell off at about 150k miles. I replaced it with a Febi part which is still holding up fine 30k miles later.
  3. I just bought a new water pump for the 530d, it's mechanical but I was relieved of £175 by BMW 😬 That price includes the discount for older cars.
  4. @skyjawa I took the car for a long drive last night. The coolant temp swayed between 85 and 98C
  5. Thanks both. The glowplugs and module were replaced a couple of years ago as when I got the car it was throwing codes for that. The thermostat was on the list already. There is also a code for exhaust back-pressure which comes and goes. Can't remember exactly what it is but I can go run a scan again in a bit.
  6. On Saturday, I spent a few mins polishing a scuff someone had left on my wing mirror. Then yesterday I took the 530d for a long drive down to Bristol to look at a Porsche Cayenne GTS. 😇 With long stretches of the cruise control set at 72MPH, I managed to get 42MPG. Before this, the best I managed was 39.6MPG
  7. @duncan-uk I got the car aligned today and it's finally tracking straight. Here is my printout The rear toe on the drivers side can't be adjusted because the adjuster nut has seized. They tried to un-seize it but couldn't.
  8. Or they will do what I did and put a random Chinese MMI box in their car...which is driving me nuts so might be coming out again 🤣 It's frustrating because some car manufacturers do want you to enjoy their older cars for the years to come. Porsche for example offer an upgraded head unit for their older cars which matches the interior perfectly and gives you Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
  9. My car is added to ConnectedDrive but it only gets updates via data on my phone. I also can't buy map updates from the website. I'll have to ask the parts department next time I need something if perhaps I have to buy a USB stick via them.
  10. I have 🤣 ...along with many control arms and an EGR valve
  11. I'll need to have a play with the settings at some point to see if perhaps there is an option for speed or something. For the F10 all the dip switches need to be in the off position which is where they are. I'll do a bit of investigation myself before bugging Mr12Volt again.
  12. I'm chatting with them at the moment. The firmware is on the latest, I did that before buttoning everything back up 👍
  13. It's not touchscreen, you navigate around using the iDrive controller. It shouldn't be my phone as I made the iDrive and my phone forget each other before I started. I think it might be when I press the back button. But that reminds me of another gripe...when parking, as soon as you put the car into drive the parking sensor screen goes away even if you've stayed below the speed where the parking sensors switch off.
  14. This weekend in between the bouts of rain I tackled the install of the Mr12Volt MMI box. It was pretty daunting dismantling the car this much... What they don't tell you in the videos is how much of a faff it is to get the CIC back into place with both the factory harness and also the Mr12Volt harness behind it. In the end, I had to force the factory cables underneath the cage where the CIC sits and then as I was pushing it back into place, I also pushed the Mr12Volt cable into the limited available space on the right. There was also the issue of the supplied mic splitter not being correct for the car. To get around this I filed off the very outer notch on the left-hand connector in the picture below and also the bottom notch of the connector on the car that goes into that blue connector in the picture. And after far too many hours, it was done... It's a bit finicky at times with jumping out of CarPlay back to the CIC for no reason and sometimes inputs using the iDrive controller control other things than the app you're using. Sound quality from it is good but a bit flat. I had to increase the bass slightly.
